As a memorial company, we get a lot of questions about headstones and cemetery markers. Whether a loved one has recently passed away or you are pre-planning your memorial, you’ll want to keep reading to learn what to expect. If you don’t see your questions below, don’t hesitate to give us a call.
What factors affect the cost of headstones and grave markers?
Factors that affect cost are material, size, and custom design. We understand you may be on a budget, which is why we’re willing to work with you to create a memorial within your means that still celebrates the life of your loved one.
Can I pre-order a headstone or grave marker?
Yes. In fact, many of our customers pick their own cemetery headstones or markers to help ease the burden on family members when they eventually pass away. It can be hard for loved ones to make a lasting decision during their time of grief. In this sense, pre-ordering your own memorial is one of the best gifts you can give them after death. That way, they can be sure that your memorial is what you would have wanted.
Choosing your own memorial also gives you peace of mind because you know that what will be on your gravesite will reflect your personal preferences, beliefs, and values. For example, if you are a devout Christian, you may want your tombstone design to include the cross, doves, or other Christian imagery.
How are headstones and grave markers different?
An upright headstone is a slab of stone (often granite) that bears the decedent’s name, date of birth, date of death, and epitaph. Grave markers, on the other hand, are often level with the ground. Be sure to ask the cemetery what type of memorial they allow. For example, some cemeteries only allow memorial plaques level with the ground. Not only does this make for easier mowing, but it creates a consistent aesthetic.
What can I expect when buying a memorial?
A memorial company will be able to help you create a headstone or grave marker that honors your loved one’s memory. We’ll walk you through the steps of telling your loved one’s story by helping you pick the size, color, and design of their memorial.
What materials can I use?
We use bronze and granite for grave markers and headstones respectively. If the decedent wished to be cremated, we also offer urns in marble and granite. We like using these materials because they have a timeless quality.
How long does it take to create a memorial?
In general, it takes us 4 to 6 weeks to deliver a memorial. However, keep in mind that how quick we are able to complete your order will depend on whether we have everything we need for the headstone design in stock and the level of customization.
